Total Dive Bar! Not sure where to start on this review. It's not fancy, not pretentious, not upscale, not rude, yet oddly comfortable. The mix of bar flies here (people) range from grudgy to well dressed with a mix of bachelorette or work parties scattered in. It can get loud where you have to scooch in real close to hear what your friends might be saying but it seems to be worth it as the noise usually provides some great people watching. Their all you can eat french fries are the best. The burgers are pretty yum too. The bartenders know and treat their regulars well. Heck, they might even start treating you like one after your second or third time in. The regulars are pretty chill too. So if you can only find one open bar stool up at the bar, belly on up and squeeze right in (they don't bite) and get yourself a cold one. So if you're in the mood for a great dive bar, this is it!
As always, I re-check a place and provide updates... YES 4 STARS! Most of the renovations are complete and Jim did an amazing job keeping the original feel with a cleaner (much cleaner) look and approach. Window, concrete floor (carpet is gone!!! YEAH!), fixed a number of tables... new glasses (drinks still flow, and the extreme over pour is gone... most people wont catch the smaller ounce glasses)... his burgers still KILL'N IT! His fries.. OH MY LORD! on point. The wings... sniffle... are not the wings still... bring them back!!!! The swing shift bartender Rhonda can run the whole place blindfolded... and the 2 guys at night are up to speed and killing it on packed Friday & Saturday's with the crowd. And... they swung to a younger crowd... got to keep up new and mixed crowds if he wants to stay open and make money. All in all... STILL A FAVORITE.
Awesome service. Was looking for some wings locally and my other spot was slammed. So glad they were because I would have never found this spot! I got the hot wings and this is weird but the celery was legit. No measly wimpy tiny slivers. Real deal long thick cut. Hot wings with great texture and flavor. I'll be back and that's for sure! Also the drinks were great too - but I just drink basic vodka soda with some lemon and lime.
If you walk in on a weekend night, you might be able to tell by all of the people that this place obviously appeals to a great number of people. It's refreshing to find a no nonsense dive bar that serves great drinks and bar food at a reasonable price. Horseshoe isn't trying to do anything or be anything that it's not. It's just a down to earth place where you can still go to have a good time and not break the bank to do it. This is the kind of place that you make a regular stop because it's just easy.
I'm sad that Horseshoe Saloon is closed...hopefully just for right now. My friend who also loves Horseshoe told me there was a personal family issue with the owner, so TBD on what's next. I always have a fun time at Horseshoe Saloon. It's a dive bar, like, a typical dive bar through and through. Do not expect collar shirts or heels, which is how I like it. People are chill as fuck, including the employees here. Located in Woodinville, the place seems to always be packed with the regulars. But aren't all good dive bars like that? In addition to their indoor space, they have a decent size outdoor space with seating. But, I don't like hangin' there because I can't stand smoke and everyone outside smokes. Pre-COVID, they had karaoke! It always made for fun Saturday nights after the wineries closed and the gals and I didn't want the fun to end. They also had pull tabs here, if that's your thang. Drinks were super cheap. And they had cans of Oly! As someone from Olympia, I always have to drink Oly whenever it's around! (It's an Oly thing.) They also served food here, which is typical bar food, but friends told me it was actually better than what you'd expect from a dive bar. Hopefully one day we can all come back to Horseshoe for eating, drinking and singing!
